Grandparents tend to be the hardest category. They have things, they need nothing, and when you ask what they'd like, the answer is always "nothing". What works are gifts whose value isn't in the price tag but in the memory — and that's exactly what a photo sitting in the family drawer is good for.
Three ideas that work best
Their wedding photo
A black-and-white photo turned into an oil painting looks like the portrait they could never have afforded back then. The strongest choice for a wedding anniversary.
A portrait of the grandchildren
A photo of the children in a drawing or watercolour style. Grandmothers hang it in the kitchen, where they see it every day.
The house they grew up in
A cottage, a street, a garden. A place that might not even be standing any more, turned into a painting on the wall — a gift no one else in the family has.
Which format to choose
Canvas is the safe choice: no frame or glass needed, just hang it straight up. A poster makes sense when you know they've got an empty frame at home. A mug is a small extra alongside the main gift — and, surprisingly, it's often the item that ends up used every day.

In an album, on a phone, or with a sibling. Ideally a sharp close-up of the face.

Oil painting feels formal, watercolour gentle, pencil drawing understated. You can try them all — generating designs costs nothing.

Production and delivery usually take 3–7 working days. If you're cutting it fine, there's still the digital download and printing it yourself.
How do I know if an old photo will be good enough?
Zoom in on the face on your phone. If you can make out the eyes and features, the result will be good. Grain in old photos usually isn't a problem — the style absorbs it.
Can I combine two photos into one painting?
We always work from a single photo. For a double portrait, choose a photo where both people are together.
