How an AI portrait is made, and what you're allowed to do with it
An explanation without the marketing: what happens to your photo, who has access to it, and what rights you have to the finished piece.
There's a lot of fog around image generation. So this article spells out exactly what happens between uploading a photo and the painting on your wall — and what you're free to do with the result.
What happens to the photo you upload

The photo is saved to our storage. Access is tied to your login, not the public — files are served through temporary signed links.

2. Processing
The photo is sent to an AI model, which turns it into an image in the chosen style. It takes a matter of seconds.

3. Watermarked preview
You'll see the result with a subtle watermark. It protects the design from being downloaded without an order; it isn't on the paid product or in the downloaded file.

4. Clean-up
Designs without an order are automatically deleted 30 days after creation. Ordered ones stay for as long as you have an account — for complaints and any reprints.
What rights you have to the finished image
Personal use
You can print, share, gift, or use a paid design as a profile picture. All of that is included in the price.
Commercial use
Selling prints, merchandise or advertising requires prior written agreement. Get in touch and we'll work it out — see our Terms.
What you're responsible for
By uploading a photo, you're confirming you have the rights to it — including the consent of the people shown in it. This matters especially for photos taken by a professional photographer and photos of other people's children.
- Your own photos
- Photos from a photographer where you hold a licence for further use
- Photos of people close to you who know you're making a painting from them
- Photos downloaded from the internet or from strangers' profiles
- Photos of celebrities and copyrighted characters
- Photos carrying someone else's watermark
- Photos of people who haven't agreed to it
Is the result always the same?
No. The model includes an element of randomness, so two generations from the same photo won't produce an identical image. That's why you order the exact design you see in the preview.
Can I have everything I've uploaded deleted?
Yes. You can delete your account, images included, from your profile; data required for accounting purposes is retained for the legally required period.
Who owns the copyright to the result?
The legal treatment of authorship for AI outputs is still evolving. To be on the safe side, we grant personal-use rights to the image and handle commercial use by agreement.
Does anyone on your team see my photos?
Only the people and services that need access have it. We don't systematically review content; the exception is handling a specific complaint or a reported rule violation.
